Shorecliffs Teacher In Court on Charges of Sexually Assaulting Student

Five young girls have made allegations against 50-year-old Shorecliffs Middle School Richard John Rack, who sexually assaulted at least one student on campus, prosecutors say.

Shorecliffs Middle School teacher Richard John Rack, 50, is scheduled to appear in court today for a pretrial hearing on charges that he sexually assaulted three young girls, assaulting at least one on campus.

Since Orange County Sheriff's Deputies first arrested Rack, two more victims came forward.

Rack, a math teacher, was charged with sexually assaulting an eighth-grade female student while alone with her on campus, according to a release from the district attorney. The defendant was previously charged with lewd conduct against two other students, for which he was charged June 1.

To protect the students' identities, the charging documents refer to them as Jane Does Nos. 1-3.

"Richard John Rack, 50, San Clemente, is charged for the sex crimes against Jane Doe No. 3 with five felony counts of lewd acts on a child and one felony count of oral copulation of a minor under 16," the D.A. release states. "If convicted of all felony counts, he faces a maximum sentence of six years and four months in state prison."

Rack was first charged for two misdemeanor counts of child annoyance against Jane Doe No. 1 and Jane Doe No. 2. If convicted on these counts, he faces a maximum sentence of two years in jail, the DA states in the release.

Following Rack's arrest in connection with Jane Does Nos. 1 and 2, investigators uncovered Rack's alleged sexual conduct with Jane Doe No. 3, the release states.

A fourth girl claiming to be a victim of Rack stepped forward after his arrest, and a fifth called the Sheriff's Department reporting she, too, had been abused, according to the Orange County Register.

Rack is being held on $1 million bail.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with additional information or who believes they have been a victim is encouraged to contact Supervising District Attorney Investigator Lou Gutierrez at 714-347-8794.
