Alleged Thief Escapes at First, But Is Caught Hours Later

SHERIFF'S BLOTTER: Also, a hotel guest goes berserk, a robber pulls a classic move and gets away with it, and a suspicious drunk man causes a ruckus.

At 1:03 p.m. Saturday Dec. 14, deputies received a call about a burglary in progress in the 200 block of Avenida Santa Barbara. The caller said he returned home and found a man inside his house. The thief fled before the caller could catch him. At 8:05 p.m. Saturday evening, however, the victim called deputies again to report he had found the thief inside a residential home nearby with all his belongings. Deputies arrived quickly and arrested the 26-year-old man. He has since been released from jail.

At 8:39 a.m. Saturday Dec. 14, a worried caller reported a disturbance in the 700 block of El Camino Real. A man at a local hotel allegedly went berserk and refused to leave the property. Guests from the hotel tried to calm the man down. Deputies arrived to diffuse the situation.

At 3:11 p.m. Saturday Dec. 14, a concerned caller reported a robbery in the 600 block of Camino de Los Mares. The caller reported seeing a 35-year-old man with a beard chase down a woman, push her down, and steal her purse.

At 10:06 p.m. Saturday, deputies received a call about a drunk man in an unknown block. The caller said a drunk man was walking along the train tracks and throwing rocks at people. The caller called deputies back to report the drunk man approached a teen in a parking lot and exchanged unknown items with him. No arrest was made.
