Thieves Steal Steal Wiring, Shutter Sports Park

The Vista Hermosa Sports Park was closed to sports practice Sunday and Monday after thieves made off with the wiring from the field lights.

From the city of San Clemente:

A theft took place this past Sunday evening at the Vista Hermosa Sports Park. Wiring was stolen from the valve boxes that support the sports lighting for the artificial turf soccer fields, causing an impact to the community.

Because of the theft, the fields are damaged and games and practices were cancelled Sunday and Monday. San Clemente Police Services is investigating the crime and will increase patrols in the immediate area.

"It is such a shame to see thieves steal from our community like this, especially considering the park is brand new,” said Mayor Jim Evert. “This theft has cost our City money and deprived our youth of playtime."

Anyone who may have observed the theft or has information relating to the crime is encouraged to call San Clemente Police Services at 949-770-6011.
