U.S. Border Patrol Nabs 260 Lbs. of Pot on I-5

During a border patrol checkpoint Monday morning, agents found the suspect allegedly transporting the drugs in a truck.

At about 6 a.m. Monday, U.S. Border Patrol agents at the checkpoint south of San Clemente stopped a with what was allegedly 260.48 pounds of marijuana in his truck.

The 52-year-old Mexican man had a "nervous demeanor" when he was stopped, according to the Border Patrol press release, promting agents to bring in a drug dog to sniff out the 2000 Toyota Tundra.

The animal indcated there were drugs in the pickup, and the release states agents searched the vehicle, discovering three bundles of marijuana in the backseat and five bundles in the truck bed toolbox.

The eight bundles of marijuana weighed 260.48 pounds and had an estimated street value of $390,720, according to the release.
