Wild Police Chase Ends With Drug Arrest in San Clemente

The chase began in the Golden Hill neighborhood of San Diego, and continued on northbound I-5.

Three men are in custody Tuesday following a late night police chase that ended with the suspects' car speeding on bare rims in San Clemente.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the pursuit began in the Golden Hill neighborhood of San Diego, when police were alerted to a possible vandalism. The chase continued on to northbound Interstate 5 and continued into North County.

CBS 8 reported that the suspects ran through a spike strip in Oceanside, and despite shredding three tires, they continued to speed on bare rims all the way to a San Clemente gas station.

"We followed the vehicle to Orange County, attempted to spike it several times... Successfully spiked it a couple of times and eventually the car became disabled here where we're at," Sgt. Matt Boothe told the news station. "The driver told us that this was his mother's rental car."

Three men in their 20s were arrested according to CHP, including one that had an outstanding warrant. Officers also found narcotics, including marijuana and pills in the car.

No one was hurt in the pursuit.
