Woman Killed in July 4 Hit-and-Run Identified

The victim was a Monrovia grandmother, deputies said.

The Orange County Coroner released the name of a woman killed in a San Clemente hit-and-run Thursday.

Marthann Demchuk, 76, of Monrovia was walking north on Pacific Coast Highway, south of the Camino Capistrano intersection, with her 13-year-old grandson at about 8:30 p.m., said Orange County Sheriff's Department Lt. Steve Gil.

A white van driven by Kelly Michelle Wolfe, 45, of Dana Point struck Demchuk in an alleged hit-and-run. She was pronounced dead at the scene, and the boy was treated on-site but not hospitalized, Gil said.

Deputies continue to investigate Wolfe, who they located and detained briefly, but no arrests have been made, Gil said.
