3 More Considering Run for Capo Board

With four seats up for grabs in Capistrano Unified School District, the campaign field is getting bigger.

Three more south county residents have indicated they want a chance to serve on the  Board of Trustees, including the first one to do so in Dana Point.

Four seats are up for election this November, and this is the first time voters will be limited to voting only for the trustee who represents their area.

Trustee Area No. 1

Jack Brick, who represents Dana Point, Capo Beach and parts of San Juan Capistrano, . Up until Wednesday, no one had signaled an interest.

Enter Karin Schnell, who pulled nominating papers with the Orange County Registrar of Voters. According to a bio with an organization that helps non-profits, Schnell is a professor at Cal State Fullerton, where she teaches classes on museum education.

She also has been heavily involved with the arts and has served with the Orange County Department of Education, as a planning coach and facilitating strategic planning programs with school districts, according to the bio.

Trustee Area No. 2

A fourth person has expressed interest in the seat that represents parts of San Juan Capistrano, Ladera Ranch and Coto de Caza. Joel Almeida of Ladera Ranch is director of sales and business development for MassMutual Retirement Services. He joins San Juan Capistrano residents and , a teacher, and Ladera Ranch resident , who identifies herself as a parent.

Trustee Area No. 3

Incumbent John Alpay may face a challenger. Steve R. Lang indicated his interest Wednesday in running for the seat that represents San Clemente. Lang appears to be the grandfather of 10, according to his Facebook page. He owns Lang Roofing of Bell Gardens.

Trustee Area No. 5

The campaign for the seat which represents Aliso Viejo is the only one unchanged this week. In that race, incumbent .
