6 Hospitalized After Marine Helicopter Crashes at Camp Pendleton

Six crew members are injured after a Huey crashed at Camp Pendleton near the border with San Clemente on Wednesday afternoon.

A UH-1Y Huey crashed approximately 1.8 miles east of the border with San Clemente Wednesday afternoon, Camp Pendleton public affairs officer Lt. Ryan Welsh told Patch.

Because the helicopter is part of the 3rd Marine Air Wing—a command element based at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar—Camp Pendleton officials were unable to release any further information.

Medics took all the crew members to hospitals with injuries of undisclosed severity, 3rd Marine Air Wing public affairs Sgt. Ryan Rholes told Patch.

The Los Angeles Times reported that one crew member died.

Emergency crews reported to the scene sometime after 12 p.m., and base spokesman Sgt. John Jackson could not confirm if any of the six crew members aboard the helicopter were injured or killed, City News Service reported.

According to City News Service, the crash caused a small brush fire.
