A Parking Garage at the Pier?

Councilman Jim Evert directed the city staff Tuesday to put on the agenda a discussion of options for more parking at the San Clemente Pier.

A parking garage is one of several options under discussion to add parking at the San Clemente Pier.

The City Council, prompted by Councilman Jim Evert, directed staffers to study what the city's options were to use $9 million in the beach parking fund to add more spaces at the San Clemente Pier.

"The concerns I get down there in the Pier Bowl are concerns about parking," Evert said.

He said more spaces (there are a total of 400 now) could help pull visitors off the residential streets in the area. He suggested that a parking garage could be a solution but said he wanted to explore the options.

Staffers put the item on the agenda for a future meeting.
