UPDATED: City Won't Tap Former Councilman for Treasurer

The existing city treasurer and assistant city manager will take the retiring George Scarborough's post.

Former San Clemente City Councilman Joe Anderson is up for appointment to the position of city treasurer at the San Clemente City Council meeting Tuesday.

Anderson served on the San Clemente City Council for 16 years and has a background in finance. He has a bachelor's degree in economics and a Series 6 securities license, according to a report by city staff.

He was also involved in crafting the city's investment policy, as well as the investment policy for the California Joint Powers Insurance Authority, on the board of which he sat during his tenure as councilman, the report states.

Anderson also has decades of experience in management at Mobil Oil and State Farm Insurance, the report states.

Anderson will receive a $500-per-month stipend to fulfill the remainder of T. Pall Gudgeirsson's elected term as treasurer. Gudgeirsson will take on the mantle of city manager March 20.
