Council Set to Raise Golf Fees

Fees would be raised $1 per round, but a twilight golfing promotion would be extended through the weekend.

The San Clemente City Council is slated to raise fees $1 a round at the .

If the council follows the staff and Golf Committee’s recommendation, however, it would extend the course’s cut-rate late-afternoon promotion, extending the $13 "super twilight" golf prices through the weekend rather than just Monday through Thursday.

More less generous twilight discounts are offered during weekends now.

According to city staff reports, the Golf Committee reasoned that the increased volume of late-afternoon play would balance out the low price.

According to the staff report, the city needs to raise fees because although  the number of players at the course remains relatively steady, the costs of upkeep continue to rise every year.

The $1-per-round increase was the lowest that would still bridge the course’s projected $187,000 funding gap.
