San Clemente to Celebrate Return of 2/4

San Clemente’s adopted unit, the 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines, has returned home from the war in Afghanistan.

San Clemente will welcome them back in style with a grand celebration and old-fashioned parade in San Clemente’s historic downtown on Thursday, June 14 (Flag Day) from 10 to 11 a.m.

The 2/4 Marines will be on foot marching, and accompanied by 2/4 Association members riding in classic cars, the 1st Marine Division Band, and members of the San Clemente City Council.

Together they will travel in formation down Avenida Del Mar to the Marine Monument at Park Semper Fi where they will be saluted at an awards ceremony and memorial service.

The parade is sponsored by The Heritage of San Clemente Foundation, the 2/4 Association and the City of San Clemente.

What has become a local tradition, the San Clemente Chamber of Commerce will host a barbecue for the 2/4 Marines on June 8 at San Onofre State Beach to show gratitude on behalf of the San Clemente community for their service and sacrifice.
