City Buys Bank-Owned Irons in the Fire Equipment

San Clemente aims to lease out the kitchen equipment and furniture at the San Clemente Municipal Golf Course to a new restauranteur.

The San Clemente City Council Tuesday bought the kitchen equipment and restaurant furniture left to the bank by the defunct restaurant Irons in the Fire.

The restauraunt, part of the , had been operating out of the clubhouse. The city took over the golf course restaurant last month.

The owner turned the restaurant over to the city and Sunwest Bank took ownership of the equipment and furniture, on which the operator Dave Donaldson originally spent about $300,000.

The city will buy the items from Sunwest for $65,000 and include them in the lease they plan to offer to some new restaurant operator.

City Manager George Scarborough said the purchase is worth it because it will allow the city to charge higher rent for the fully-furnished facility.
