New Firehouse Hosts Grand Opening

Tuesday's dedication ceremony for San Clemente's combination senior center and firehouse draws assorted dignitaries.

City Council members and staff, OC Supervisor Pat Bates and Orange County Fire Chief Keith Richter were just a few of the officials attending the dedication of Fire Station 60 on Avenida Victoria.

"One of the things that has concerned us about San Clemente is that all our fire stations were on the other side of the freeway," Richter said at the Tuesday dedication. "If the bridges went down, it would be difficult to serve this side of the freeway. Now, we have one less thing to worry about."

San Clemente Mayor Lori Donchak said the station will serve about 12,000 people. It will be staffed by a dozen firefighters and be operational 24 hours per day.
