North Beach Businesses Can Get up to $1K for Facades

The grant program is modeled after a successful one in the Los Molinos business district.

Business owners in the North Beach district of San Clemente can apply for up to $999 from the city to help spiff up their street frontage.

At the Dec. 18 meeting, the San Clemente City Council is set to waive city inspection and permit fees as well, which average about $128 per $1,000 in improvements, according to staff reports.

The city in their last approved budget allocated $10,000 for the grant program, modeled after a similar one successfully instituted in the Los Molinos business district.

As part of the program, city staffers would help interested businesses fill out applications and help shepherd them through the permit process, according to a staff report.

Staffers estimate the measure would cost the city about $1,300 in lost permit fees, but would generate more enthusiasm for the program and ultimately, get North Beach looking nicer.
