'Yes' and 'No' Supporters Gather at Yoder's Home and Ichibiri

Project proponents and opponents eagerly await election results.

Editors Note: The following are dispatches from our two reporters in the field, one with the gathering of "no-on-A" campaigners and the other ensconced with the "Yes-on-A" campaigners awaiting results.

"We are quietly confident, either way the cause goes on," said and prominent Measure A opponent. "If we lose, we will take it to the Coastal Commission. We are cautiously optimistic. We had such great response with sign waving. This is highly contested and we think the vote's going to be big."

"You like the beach, the swim club, the metro, and you'd like it to stay the way it is," he said "Basically I think [Measure A] will ruin the beach. I'd like to win, but ['yes-on-A' has] a lot of money from real estate and outside interest."

Head of the anti-Measure A PAC Charles Mann, said early Tuesday the gathering was closed to the media. Early in the evening, he attempted to evict several members of the media from the restaurant.

THE YES CAMPAIGN

"Yes on A" proponents gathered excitedly at Wendy Yoder's home on election night.

Yoder and guests are in support of the renovation of the North Beach area of San Clemente.

Yoder volunteered her home to the Pro North Beach Vision Coallition, of which is president. Supporters see the Playa del Norte project as a way to improve the North Beach area.

North Beach currently consists of "vacant lots, closed businesses and under-utilized historic structures ... much like how it was in 1976," said Joe Anderson, previous City Council member and three-time mayor of San Clemente.

They were anticipating the election results with a positive attitude.

"I hope we win," said Richard Ford, a "Yes on A" supporter. Ford said he surveyed 100 homes, with 60 percent of voters he spoke with in support of the Playa del Norte project.
