San Clemente Adopted Marine Unit Starts Deploying Soon

The Second Battalion, Fourth Marines begins deploying to Afghanistan over the coming weeks.

San Clemente's adopted Marine unit, the Second Battalion, Fourth Marines, soon begins deployment to Afghanistan.

Lt. Col. William Vivian, the unit's commanding officer, told the City Council on Tuesday that he and his fellow Marines had been training in the intense heat of Twenty-Nine Palms over the last couple months to prepare them for their tour.

"Once again, just a reminder and a thank you," Vivian said. "San Clemente was the first to adopt a unit from the first battalion in 1996."
