Trails to Remain Closed through Sept. 20

Waterline work ran into unforeseen complications, causing the delay.

The San Juan Capistrano trail (Camino De Los Mares trail entrance) and the Forster Ranch Ridgeline Trail will remain closed through Sept. 20 to complete a water line project in the County of Orange landfill area.

The trails shut down in July for the project and were expected to open Monday, however, workers at FORE Engineering ran into rock formations that required extra work.

Additional logistical issues involving their limited work space also contributed to the delay, according to a release from the city of San Clemente.

The trail is closed because of the danger to pedestrians from the construction vehicles using the trail as the waterline and electrical conduit is laid.

Once the area is cleared by the County of Orange, its staff will reopen San Clemente’s Forster Ranch Ridgeline Trail and the trail portion in San Juan Capistrano, the release states.
