“I appreciate that the council members decided to face the audience this time,” she said.

A resident of the neighborhood near Trestles, Hennessy is directly impacted by the San Onofre Nuclear Station and said she felt compelled to attend the meetings. Living only a few miles away from the station, she said multiple community members in her surrounding area have been affected by cancer and questions whether the nuclear plant is to blame.

“I wanted to know what they had to say about my community,” Hennessy said.

Ron Rodarte, a member of San Clemente Green who took part in the efforts to bring the expert panel to the meeting, said this is a big step toward raising awareness for this issue.

“These meetings have confirmed what I have already known… but now these issues are on record," he said.
