Votes Will Be Counted Right Away March 8

San Clemente voters will have their unofficial election results right away, says city clerk.

The following is the text of an e-mail from the San Clemente City Clerk with information about the March 8 vote on Measure A, the approval of which would allow negotiations on the controversial Playa del Norte development to move forward. Hi Everyone:

City Hall will be open on election night (March 8th) for the purpose of receiving election results.  You are welcome to join us (we will have light refreshments).

The vote-by-mail ballots that were received early in the Registrar of Voters office are expected to be counted immediately after the polls close at 8:00 p.m. and posted to www.ocvote.com by 8:05 p.m.

The precinct votes will be turned into two collection sites (City Hall and the Lutheran Church) by about 9:00 p.m. or 9:30 p.m.   The votes from each collection site will then be driven to the Registrar of Voters’ Office.

Because San Clemente is the only participant in this election, our votes will be counted promptly upon receipt at the ROV’s Office.  It is likely that the precinct vote count will be completed by 10:00 p.m. or 10:30 p.m.

After the precinct and early vote-by mail ballots are counted, the ROV will need a day or two to process the provisional ballots, and the vote-by-mail ballots that were delivered to the precincts or received by the ROV close to the March 8, 2011 at 8:00 p.m. deadline.

Neal Kelley, the Orange County Registrar of Voters, anticipates that the canvass will be complete and the election certified within just a few days of March 8th.

I hope to see you on election night, but if you are not able to join us, please know that you can receive tabulation updates by logging into www.ocvote.com, by accessing the City’s cable channels (Channel 30 for regular televisions and Channel 854 for high-definition televisions), or by calling my office at 949-361-8287.  The City’s main telephone line (949-361-8200) will also be open to assist people with polling location inquiries.

I’m copying the press on this email so that they can publish this information in their publications.  Everyone is invited to join us on election night.  We will be open starting at 7:45 p.m. and continuing until after the precinct counts are complete.

Thank you and let me know if you have questions.
