Architect: Benice Ayer Needs $16.2 Mil in Renovations

Across Capistrano Unified there are $822 million worth of modernization projects and repairs. This is BAMS's share.

To bring Bernice Ayer Middle School  up to modern-day standards would take about $16.2 million, an architect has determined.

Of that, $8.5 million would be used to replace half of the portable classrooms with permanent buildings, according to a 2009 study the Capistrano Unified School District commissioned.

The architect’s report was recently updated for 2013 pricing. The district is facing $822 million worth of needs and only has about $44 million on hand to address them.

The 2013 figures also include $666,000 to purchase state-of-the-art technology for students.

The total figure also includes money to build a gymnasium and nearly $1.5 million in routine repairs the district has put off in recent years at the San Clemente campus, including that to floor covering, roofing, painting and paving.
