Architect: Marblehead Elementary Needs $2.6 Mil in Upgrades, Repairs

With all of Capistrano Unified's campuses looking at a total of $822 million in construction needs, here's Marblehead Elementary's portion.

Marblehead Elementary School has relatively few facility needs when compared to other San Clemente schools; a Capistrano Unified School District architect says $2.6 million should cover needed upgrades.

Of that amount, $360,000 would cover the cost of replacing half of the  San Clement school’s portable classrooms with permanent facilities. Another $792,000 is needed to address routine maintenance items the district has put off for several years now, including, paint, the fire alarm and floor covering.

The figures were part of a 2009 review of renovations needed at all 55 CUSD campuses. Since then, the report was updated for 2013 pricing. The district is facing $822 million worth of needs and only has about $44 million on hand to address them.

The 2013 figures also include $468,000 to pay for a major technology upgrade for students.

Below is an easier-to-read legend for the photo above. New construction, which originally included replacing all the portables, is in peach, remodels in yellow.
