At-Risk San Clemente Kids on Field Trip to Ford Design HQ
The students were deemed at risk for gang involvement.
Students from Viejo Elementary will join other Orange County kids to learn how cars are designed and sold Friday at the Ford design facilities in Irvine.
The students chosen to participate were deemed at risk for gang activity, according to the Orange County District Attorney's office.
To participate, students met a challenge to have no unexcused absences, criminal activity or arrests, violence or weapons on campus or gang-related clothing, writing or behavior.
Students will see the new Ford Mustang, which is being debuted the day before they arrive. They will also meet Henry Ford III, the great-great grandson of Ford founder Henry Ford.
Between Sept. and Dec., Ford employees visited the 12 participating schools with county gang intervention specialists to identify 120 kids ages 9-13 at risk of gang involvement.
The 12 schools that participated include schools in the cities of Mission Viejo, San Clemente and San Juan Capistrano.
