Capo Unified Wants Your Kids Fluent in Spanish

The Capistrano Unified School District starts taking elementary school applications Feb. 1 for its popular Spanish Immersion program.

The following is an announcement from the Capistrano Unified School District:

Three in the will accept applications for kindergarten students beginning Feb. 1.

in San Clemente, in San Juan Capistrano, and in Mission Viejo will accept applications for kindergarten students from Feb. 1-10, 2012. Children must be 5 years old by Nov. 2, 2012, in order to apply.

Applications for the popular language immersion programs are available at each school site.

Students participating in the Spanish Two-Way Immersion (TWI) program receive instruction in both Spanish and English to develop linguistic and academic competence in both languages. Students from the two language groups (native English and native Spanish speakers) attend class together, learn from one another, and support each other’s second language acquisition.

Each school will hold informational meetings to introduce and explain the TWI program to families. The schedule is as follows:

  • Las Palmas Elementary School, 1101 Calle Puente, San Clemente
    • Jan. 17, 24, 31, and Feb. 7, 2012 at 8:30 a.m.
  • San Juan Elementary School, 31642 El Camino Real, San Juan Capistrano
    • English – Jan. 13, 17, 24, 26 and Feb. 9, 2012 at 8 a.m.
    • Spanish – Feb. 2, Feb. 16 and 23, 2012 at 8 a.m.
  • Viejo Elementary School, 26782 Via Grande, Mission Viejo
    • Jan. 11, Feb. 1, and Feb. 10, 2012 at 8:30 a.m.

Applications for the District’s at in Laguna Niguel will also be accepted from Feb. 1-10, 2012. Applications can be picked up and dropped off at Marian Bergeson Elementary School, 25302 Rancho Niguel Rd., Laguna Niguel.
