Concordia Needs $9.5 Mil to Modernize, Architect Says

With Capistrano Unified facing an $822 million tab districtwide, here's Concordia Elementary's portion of the construction bill.

An architect has identified $9.5 million worth of facility needs at Concordia Elementary.

The Capistrano Unified School District commissioned a survey of all modernization needs in the district in 2009. The report was recently updated for 2013 pricing. The district is facing $822 million worth of needs and only has about $44 million on hand to address them.

Of the $9.5 million identified, about $1.6 million would be used to replace half of the school’s portable classrooms. And, some $1.2 million in routine deferred repairs and maintenance are needed in areas such as paint, the fire alarm and intercom system.

The 2013 figures also include $613,000 to upgrade student technology to the latest available.

Concordia has several issues. One is firefighter access; 1,616 square feet of the school’s buildings cannot be covered by firefighters.
