parents and students waiting for their Star tests results can find them online now – if they’ve registered for a “parent portal” account.

The so-called Standardized Testing and Reporting results after officials discovered a “breach of security.” Some students allegedly managed to take photos of the test questions with their phones and upload them to social networking sites on the internet.

Districts normally receive the results from the state in mid-to late July but didn’t receive them until Friday, according to the Imperial Valley Press.

According to an announcement to parents from in San Juan Capistrano, parents who have a “parent portal” online account can see the results now.

“[Y]ou can log in at any time to view the results. In addition, STAR student reports will be mailed home within the next two weeks,” the email states.

The school district is asking parents who have not received the results by mail by Sept. 7 to contact the school office where the student took the test.

The actual security breach happened across the state, including San Diego County. No Capistrano Unified students were implicated in the scandal.

About 440 different images of the test were found online, according to the Napa Valley Register.

Most of the pictures showed students posing with closed test booklets, the Napa Valley Register reported. Only 36 pictures contained questions from the test.

State Superintendent Tom Torlakson will release school- and district-wide results next Friday, according to a media advisory.
