San Clemente Schools Greet Seven New Principals

The high school, two middle schools and four elementaries have new leadership.

San Clemente High is not the only area school with a new principal. A middle school and two elementaries will have new leadership come September as well.

Sandra McKinney will take the helm at Vista Del Mar Middle School. She’s making the move from Clarence Lobo Elementary, where she’s been principal since 2008.

Before serving as an elementary school principal, McKinney served as an assistant principal, elementary school counselor, and administrator in various capacities in CUSD from 1995 to 2008.  She received her bachelor’s degree in liberal studies from California State University, Northridge and her master’s in school counseling from the University of La Verne.

CLARENCE LOBO ELEMENTARY

The Capistrano Unified School District has tapped Cheryl Sampson as the new principal at Lobo.

Sampson has been an elementary teaching assistant principal at three CUSD schools since 2011.  Joining Capo in 2008 as a third grade teacher, Sampson previously, Sampson worked as a consultant for the California Department of Education, a teacher and English language coordinator in the Morgan Hill Unified School District, and a program coordinator and director in the Lompoc Unified School District.  

She began her career as a teacher in the Orange Unified School District and later taught in the Anaheim City School District.

MARBLEHEAD ELEMENTARY

Faith Morris is the new principal at Marblehead. She is making the switch from  Malcom Elementary School in Laguna Niguel, where she has held the top spot since 2006.  Previous to her tenure at Malcom, Morris was Principal at Del Obispo Elementary School in San Juan Capistrano, a position she held from 2000 to 2006.  

She began her work in CUSD in 1996 as an elementary teaching assistant principal.  Before arriving in CUSD, Morris was a teacher, coordinator, and summer school principal at Corinne A. Seeds University Elementary School at UCLA from 1991 to 1996.  

From 1978 to 1985, she worked as a teacher and admissions coordinator at St. Michael and All Angels’ Parish Day School in Studio City.  She received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Smith College in Massachusetts, a master’s in administration and supervision from California State University, Northridge, and her doctorate in curriculum from UCLA.
