SCHS 2012 Class Challenged to 'Own the World'

The class of 2012 "owned the school," said San Clemente High School principal George Duarte, with more athletic championships and higher academic performance than any class before it.

At the Wednesday commencement ceremony, he challenged the hundreds of students -- now alumni as of about 6 p.m. -- to "own the world" in the same way.

"That task imbues this festive ceremony with a touch of gravity," said 2012 Scholar of Scholars Elena Gacek to the hundreds of graduates and spectators.

Also speaking on the podium before fellow graduates was Skylar McKee, representing the 2012 graduates with disabilities.
