Teacher Hired for San Clemente High Auto Shop

A troubled program may get a fresh start with a new face.

Auto Academy students at San Clemente High finally have a teacher.

A spokesman for the Capistrano Unified School District confirmed the district has found a teacher. The program has been without a teacher since Sept. 27.

Academy director James Dunlap quit teaching two weeks into the new school year. The district then called upon the founding director, Robert McCarroll, to fill in while the search was on for a permanent replacement.

But he then left after just three days.

During that short time, however, McCarroll discovered a number of serious problems in the auto shop, the most serious of which was that it was contaminated with dust, some of it containing led.

The shop was then cordoned off, a clean-up crew hired and the students shuffled to a science lab where a revolving door of substitutes kept order.

The new teacher is Warren Cesar, who is listed as a contact for the Regional Occupational Program at Yucca Valley High School. He is expected to start next week.
