Tuesday Marrow Drive Honors Late SCHS Teacher

The annual "In-SPEAR-ation" Blood Drive and Marrow Registry, in honor of instructor Jeff Spear, begins at 8 a.m. at San Clemente High School.

The Be A Hero Become A Donor Club at SCHS hosts its third annual Donor "In-SPEAR-ation" Blood Drive and Marrow Registry from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday.

The drive is in honor of Jeff Spear, a long-time teacher at the high school, who died from lung cancer—unrelated to smoking—three years ago.

"This is an awesome way to continue Mr. Spear's legacy here at the high school, as a teacher that gave his all to his students," said Club President Derek Cousineau in a news release. "Our students and community now can give life to others in his honor."

Resident Jeanne Siegel, who will be present at the event, needed a life-saving bone marrow transplant, and having found a donor through the national registry, she wants to encourage others to "give HOPE" to families in need.

Adults may walk in and be taken to head of line to donate. Students will have one more opportunity to sign up Monday at lunch. The event is in the Triton Center at San Clemente High School.
