4 San Clemente Runners in Boston Marathon, Site of Deadly Explosions

Two reportedly finish the race before the blasts. In Orange County, authorities go on "heightened alert" at local events.

Four San Clemente residents reportedly competed in the Boston Marathon on Monday, with two finishing before explosions claimed the lives of at least two people and mare than 100 others.

Dozens of Orange County residents took part in the race, including Laguna Beach's John Loftus, who won the age 54-59 division. Most of the Orange County runners finished before the explosions, according to a race website. There was no immediate word on whether any were injured by the explosions.

Meanwhile, in Orange County, the Sheriff's Department promised to step up its presence "at local sporting/entertainment venues and other large gathering places."

Several gruesome photos have surfaced on Twitter from reporters and runners who said they were at the scene, some appearing to show individuals missing limbs and blood splattered across the sidewalk.

According to the Boston Athletic Association site, two San Clemente entrants finished before the blasts and two others didn't cross the finish line:

  • Carla McAlister, age 40: 3 hours, 8 seconds
  • Claron McAlister, age 38: 3 hours, 7 minutes, 56 seconds
  • Sommer Miller, 33, and Jon Knight, 44, had no race times listed. This may mean they were diverted after the explosion or didn't participate.
