Chargers Resort to Groupon Deal to Avoid Blackout for Sunday

For $68, you get an endzone seat and a $20 voucher for food and beverages.

If it works for the local bowling alley and hair salon, why not the San Diego Chargers?

In an effort to increase ticket sales—and avoid their fourth TV blackout of the season—the struggling 5-8 NFL team is offering a deal via Groupon's daily discount site.

The $68 package—which includes one endzone seat and a $20 food and drink voucher—is being sold for Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers.

This is the first time the team named for a credit card has partnered with the discount site, according to a U-T San Diego report.

The Chargers announced Monday they to avoid a blackout.

The deal can be purchased at Groupon.com/deals/gl-at-san-diego-chargers

What does an end zone ticket usually cost?

Why don't they just give the end zone seats away to the San Diego homeless? That would easily fill them to capacity and you'd still have 20,000 homeless waiting outside the stadium for a free pass. That way you could fool those watching on TV and feed them with the illusion that San Diegians love their Chargers. heh. It would be a win-win. I bet crime in the city would go down sharply during the game too! Come on, people! Think outside the darn box!!! :^)

$68 is the normal price, so the deal is you get the $20 food/drink voucher and avoid Ticketmaster fees.

I wouldn't take the time to see a Charger game if they paid me $68 to go! heh. Not even if they tossed in an extra $20 for food! heh. My time is too valuable to be spent watching a loser team. I don't watch pro football. They are overpaid spoiled brats. I like college football. You can have the pros. If you want to spend your hard earned money to watch the overpaid spoiled brats play - knock yourselves out!!! :^)

Any chance they'll add back the daily weather in the header? or anywhere? I used to check theRead More Patch daily just for the weather which of course led me to the additional news articles but I honestly don't read it as often now since the weather is not on the 'new look'.

It's being discussed, but it's further down the list. I know we're working on bringing back theRead More comment stream (the quotes people would leave a stories, I always loved that). We're making tweaks everyday, and I think the look is a huge improvement over little blue East Coast houses. ;-)

Arg. So frustrated. I really wanted to read this article, but will not read an article of thisRead More length with *no paragraph breaks*. This is not the first time I've encountered this on The Patch. Very frustrating....actually haven't even looked at The Patch in a bit because last time, same thing. Arg.
