City Hikes Some Fees for Fields, Pool

Admission to new aquatic center rises. Sports field rental costs also climb, except for local leagues with partnership agreements.

Fees for using San Clemente's new aquatic center and sports fields were revamped Tuesday by the City Council.

The fees will be higher for organizations that use them occasionally -- $250 per hour at the Vist Hermosa Sports Park -- but stay the same for local Little League, youth soccer, softball and football leagues that have individual partnership agreements in which the groups pay a reduced fee.

Daily fees for the new pool at the Vista Hermosa Sports Park will rise as follows:

Councilmen Bob Baker and Tim Brown said the daily pool fees should be lower, which prompted them to vote against the increases, but they said they agreed with the other fees.

Recreation Manager Pam Passow said setting fees is an art, not a science, and the City Council could change prices again before the summer season ends if the pool gets too crowded or if the increase discourages residents from using the pool.

The rental fees for the pool and field facilities at Vista Hermosa, per-hour of use, are as follows:

Facility
Fee All Pools and Pool Deck $500 Play Pool $200 Grass Event Space $200 Meeting Room $150

City officials noted there would be significant discounts available for residents and nonprofits wishing to rent the facilities.
