Tritons drop their third straight.

After a surprisingly one-sided loss to rival Corona del Mar a week ago, Newport Harbor bounced back against struggling San Clemente. The Tritons have lost three in a row—all with quarterback Sam Darnold on the bench with a season-ending foot injury.

Key Stats: Newport Harbor’s Quest Truxton returned two interceptions for touchdowns, of 60 and 45 yards, and also caught a 24-yard touchdown pass.

Pivotal Moment: After driving on Newport Harbor and pulling to 24-13, San Clemente quickly got the ball back with good field position—its own 44—as momentum appeared to shift. But Newport’s Cory Stowell returned an interception 33 yards to kill the drive, and by the time San Clemente got the ball again, Newport had run 4 1/2 minutes off the clock and added a field goal for a 27-13 lead with 2:31 left in the game.
