Update: San Clemente's Quam in National Wrestling Competition

Senior headed to Virgina Beach to complete in 22nd annual NHSCA National Wrestling Championships this weekend.

Update of Saturday, April 2: Preson Quam lost his match against Utah's Derek Thomas by a 5-3 decision, dropping the Tritons wrestler into the consolation bracket, where he defeated Maryland's Zathy Ndiang by fall at 3:38 and Nw Yorks's Joe Cummings by a 6-4 decision. Quam fell to his next opponent, Michigan's Justin Heiserman, in a 5-3 decision, and was eliminated from the competition.

Update of Friday, April 1: Preston Quam won his first match of the competiton, defeating Thomas Bolday by fall at 3 minutes 29 seconds. Quam next faces Utah's Derek Thomas, who won by a 6-3 decision over New Jersey's Tyler Lyster.

Original article of Thursday, March 31: San Clemente's Preston Quam is scheduled to participate in the Senior Division of the 22nd annual NHSCA National Wrestling Championships, beginning Friday in Virginia Beach.

Quam, who is headed to Purdue this fall on a wrestling scholarship, finished runner-up in the CIF State Wrestling Championships at 189 pounds on March 5. The senior has a 57-7 record coming into the weekend's competition, in which he  is seeded fifth. Finals are set for Sunday.
