San Clemente's Anthony "Twan" Bustos is back on the scene after a debilitating compound fracture to the ankle.

Anthony "Twan" Bustos is back on the scene flipping and jumping on his scooter this week in Canada.

The San Clemente scooter pro is a hundred pounds lighter and has metal plates and screws holding his once shattered ankle together, but judging by his videos, he's as nimble on two wheels as ever.

North America for the last week or so, judging scooter competitions at skate parks and handing out free Madd Gear VX2 Pro scooters.

"I usually pick the kid with the crappiest scooter," Bustos said, describing his selection criteria. "One kid, his dad came up to me and said his scooter just got stolen the day before."

Bustos, who spoke to Patch on the phone Wednesday on his way to Montreal from Toronto, also criticized the city of San Clemente's , which bans scooters.

"I think it's ridiculous," Bustos said on San Clemente's scooter ban at the . "Especially now ― every kid sits around and eats food and is obese. If you're going to shun a group of people for going out and exercising, it's just ridiculous. I see kids on skateboards up there all the time riding without helmets. It seems as if scootering at the skate park is a worse crime than not wearing your helmet."

The ban remains in place, however.

Bustos, now 24, said he started on a cheap Walmart scooter when he was 16 because his parents didn't want to buy him a skateboard and said a bike was too expensive.

Soon, he was learning tricks and meeting up with other scooter enthusiasts he contacted through online scooter forums.

At 19, Bustos entered a pro competition in San Diego as an unsponsored amateur and won third place. Since then, he's picked up Madd Gear as a sponsor and has toured throughout North America, the U.K, Spain, Hong Kong, Germany and Australia.
