SURF REPORT: Conditions Likely to Deteriorate

Sizeable surf, with conditions likely to deteriorate!

Waking up with the waves on Friday, I'm Surf Junkie Jeff with your San Clemente Patch surf report. Well, we're seeing another day with plenty of good size surf, but those conditions are likely to deteriorate rather quickly, because of this next storm.

We're already seeing some texture on the water because of light southeast wind. We've got a continued combination of swells in the water, as well; there's mainly modest west northwest swell and some smaller south southwesterly energy.

That recipe is offering some kinda' crumbly, sectiony lines, with some wedgy shoulders to pick off.  Most spots in San Clemente are running about stomach- to shoulder-high, with the top breaks pulling some head-high waves, with some overhead sets.

Taking a look at those tides: At 9:37 this morning it drops to a 0.1 low which will have many beaches needing water mid-morning.  The tide then pushes back up to a 3.1 high at 4:51 this afternoon.

If you're planning on paddling, throw on at least a 3/2 fullsuit or a 4/3 and possibly the booties, with the water temperature averaging between 56 and 58 degrees.

See ya in the water!

FYI: The County Health Department urges surfers and swimmers to stay out of the ocean after rain for at least 72 hours due to urban runoff, especially near river mouths, storm drains and harbor entrances.
