Da-dum. Da-dum.
Do you hear the Jaws theme?
Four killer whales appeared to be more than curious last week when they decided to check out the folks aboard the Ocean Adventure vessel for a closer look.
Boat Owner Donna Kalez, general manager of Dana Wharf Sportfishing and Whale Watching, said the whales had been following a pod of common dolphin all day, but they didn't attack.
The sighting was made by Captain Corey Leiser in front of Dana Point's Headlands, she said.
Alisa Schulman Janiger, a killer whale expert, sent the below statement to Kalez and crew, via email about Monday's sightings in Long Beach before they appeared locally:
"Last season this matriline of seven whales (another daughter and her two offspring were absent today) came down from Monterey and visited the LA/Orange County area in September and December 2011, and in January and May 2012; they often brought other matrilines with them. Hopefully these mammal-eating specialists will be around for a few more days before heading back up north. Watch out, all you seals, sea lions, and dolphins between Los Angeles and Dana Point."
