Water Polo Tourney Named after Late SCHS Student

Grant Davies, who died backpacking over the summer, now has a water polo tournament named in his honor.

The SCHS Boy's Water Polo Team hosted a tournament this weekend that was renamed the "Grant Davies Memorial Tournament" in memory of 14 year old sophomore Grant Davies who passed away this summer while backpacking in the High Sierras.

Grant was the goalie on the frosh team and will be greatly missed by his teammates.

"What better way to honor Grant's memory than to name this tournament after him", said head water polo coach Marc Parker.

Following the gold medal game, the boy's hosted an "alumni game," welcoming back 16 former players, with our oldest alumni being Brad Bierbaum, 1980 grad, whose son now plays on the JV team; Logan Powell, 2002, who is now the head coach for the girl's team, and former head coach Bob Nealy, who last coached the team in 1998, to name a few.

The varsity boys held off the senior crew for three quarters, but their size and knowledge of the game got the best of the varsity boys, with a little help from the refs!

We plan to host this game every year in conjunction with Grant's tournament, so we are asking for SCHS polo alumni  to reconnect with us so we can notify you with next year's date. Please email Gina Cousineau at ginacinsc@aol.com
