Pier Hosts Beatlemania Concert

The second of four in San Clemente's summer series draws hundreds of people.

Hundreds gathered at San Clemente Pier’s north side to watch a Beatles tribute band Paperback Writer perform in the breezy summer weather. This was the second of four summer concerts for San Clemente, which are featured every Thursday at 6 p.m.

“As soon as they put on their wigs, they’re in character,” said San Clemente Recreation Specialist Melissa Muraira. “They really know how to get everyone excited.”

Paperback Writer did not hesitate to pull out all the stops for the crowd. As if they just set up for the 1964 Ed Sullivan Show premier, the guitars, drum set, costumes and accents were in proper Beatles fashion. Their first song, “She Loves You,” had the crowd singing and dancing along and, as their set progressed, a crowd of “groupies” jumped and jived at the front of the stage. At the end of songs, the musicians bowed in unison in typical Beatles fashion.

“We are very fortunate to be here on this day and enjoy Paperback Writer,” said San Clemente resident Linda Bowers. “It was no hassle, the weather and the entertainment are great and it’s free. We are so lucky.”
