Exchange Club Honors Moore as Lifeguard of the Year

Seven-year San Clemente Lifeguard Kris Moore takes home a brand new surf board, original art and community kudos.

The honored Kris Moore as 2011 Lifeguard of the Year at a luncheon Thursday.

"I've definitely been putting my head down and working hard all season," said Moore, who is at the end of his seventh summer guarding San Clemente swimmers. "I'm definitely very blessed to be here today."

Moore said his "legit" rescue numbers are "in the high 40s" for this summer, but he's likely prevented many more dangerous incidents by warning swimmers of rip currents and other water hazards before they become ensnared.

"We'll go early to prevent anything from happening," Moore said. "Chief's motto is 'when in doubt, check it out,' and I've really stood by that."

Bob Lloyd of the Exchange Club said the group has honored seven lifeguards in the past. Moore will be taking home a brand new surf board with the names of all the program's sponsors (see the photos attached to this article), and a similar board with Moore's name emblazoned on it will be on display at restaurant, which hosted the luncheon.
