S.C. Jr. Women Groove for Charity

The service club brought disco back to the Talega Golf Club to raise money for locals.

The San Clemente Junior Women’s Club broke out the glitter hot pants and afro wigs for their fourth annual Casino Night Saturday at the Talega Golf Club.

Almost 140 event tickets were sold at $50 a person for the 70s-themed event, buying guests a night of disco, funny money, and classic tunes.

The Saturday Night Fever started off with a bang as a helicopter flew over the Talega Golf Club for an Opportunity Golf Ball Drop, dropping numbered golf balls over the course to determine the lucky raffle winner for a weekend retreat in Laguna Beach and $300 of spending money.

The club also hosted a live auction, complete with an auctioneer and disco lady, bidding off luxurious items ranging from two VIP tickets to the Ellen Degeneres Show, a trip for two to New York City, to a certificate for a full set of braces.

And for the shyer guests, a silent auction took place throughout the night.

“Our organization is mostly service-based, so it’s always fun when we have a fundraising event like this,” said Pam Cruse, the club’s PR chair.

The money raised in the event will go to various San Clemente organizations throughout the year, as voted by the chapter.
