Rotary Club Mixes, Gears Up for Events

The latest event, 'Dancing for a Cause' will feature non-profit staffers from across the city.

The San Clemente Rotary Club met to socialize and discuss future events for the city at the Shore Cliffs Beach Club Friday.

Members are gearing up for the upcoming Dancing for a Cause, put on by sister rotary, the San Clemente Sunrise Rotary Club, May 18 at the Hills Hotel in Laguna Hills.

 “The funds from our events will go to a number of local charities,” said San Clemente Rotary Club President Tyler Johnson. “Through our combined efforts, we can make a difference in our community.”

The annual Dancing for a Cause event will pit dancers from local non-profits against one another to raise money for local charities in a dance competition based on the hit television show “Dancing with the Stars.”

Members from San Clemente Rotary Club, San Clemente Sunrise Rotary Club, and the San Clemente Kiwanis Club will be competing in the event alongside six dancers from South Coast Dancesport.

“It’s a citywide effort for charity and it’s good for the community,” said San Clemente Rotary Club member and dance competitor Raymond Toal. “If you’re going to compete for charity, it’s a great way to spend your time. I love Rotary, San Clemente and I love to dance.”

Also, June 2 the San Clemente Rotary will host 20th annual Big Band/Swing Night at the San Clemente Community Center. The doors open at 5 p.m. and will feature big band music and dancing until 10 p.m.
