I figured you'd respond with more general gibberish without any specifics. So IMO you flunked theRead More test and forfeited any semblance of board credibility. You didn't come on this board to enter into a credible discussion. You came on here to distract and demean. Now that's clear to me. You refuse to even discuss the aspects of Sgt. Loggins' execution with me, to include the evidence we've learned about thus far or the actions (or inactions) taken by those in power after the fact in response. You are just another blatherer. My recommendation is for you to go away and take your clutter with you.

Paige, California is one state that does NOT make kindergarten mandatory. It was also one of theRead More few states to admit 4 year olds to Kindergarten. That has now been corrected and the entry date for kindergarten is changing to Sept. 1 over a 3 year period. Next year students must be 5 by Oct. 1st and the following year they must be 5 by Sept. 1st. I believe Lori's point was that the curriculum bar has been raised. Some children will be reading in Kindergarten and others need more time to develop the physical skills needed for reading. As parents and teachers will testify, development varies for children in all aspects. I agree with you that funding for education in CA needs to be addressed. We spend a lot less per child than most states. As for full day K, the way the day is spent has a lot to do with the success of the program. Lack of facilities has prevented the implementation of full day K in CUSD. And the split day mentioned by Lori has been very successful in providing smaller groups for the teacher to work with. Students are in a class of 15 for half of their day. It works really well.

Why do you find it necessary to say that SONGS will restart? Have you not noticed the mountingRead More opposition to it and steady turning of the tide, including the ASLB decision ? I do not think SONGS will restart, it is too dangerous to do so for many reasons one of which you noted, the evacuation which is impossible, and people are becoming more and more on board to fight it. Across the nation attention is turning to nuclear power as a failed and dangerous idea. Fukushima and the reports from there are daunting to continuing it here without regard. Awareness, knowledge, organizations like Friends of the Earth, ROSE, San Onofre Safety, on and on are working hard. Please respect their efforts and be positive adding positive words!
San Juan May 21, 2013 at 08:02 am
Oh boy, here we go. Local residents be prepared for SONGS to restart, how could you think that itRead More wouldn't. You must not know who your dealing with, Southern California Edison and the Nuclear Regulatory Committee, come on folks their gonna start those two monsters with or without the public approval. I would rather smell the smoke from the fire rings than to end up glowing from the radioactive material that is being washed into our ocean, and don't think it's not. A nuclear incident is just one part of the equation, now try evacuating San Clemente and surrounding cities, residents are going to wish they had an evacuation route that moved quicker than 2 mph. You may own property in the area but SCE owns all of us. DEMO SONGS NOW

Keep the fire rings in HB and if Newport doesn't want them so be it ! HB will welcome all ethnicsRead More groups at there beaches who pay to park and shop locally at markets or to get gas etc. theses people also buy burgers drinks souvenirs rent bikes and spend money so welcome to HB !!! Surf city USA " we welcome all of you to our town and beaches ". O ya I forgot parking tickets " lol. On another note we do need to ban lighter fire fluid as it does smell bad and cause black smoke and most peeps pour the whole can wet or green wood to get burning ,! Best management practices are needed! Education just like what doesn't go into a storm drain etc! Jim comments also fall true above who states airplane fallout from exhaust from take offs coming from John Wayne airport ! But wait isn't it newport beach who doesn't allow take offs after 10:00 pm nightly over there city and didn't want an international airport made out of the el toro marine base . Money talks $$$. So come and have your beach fires in HB city or state beachs And create your memories for life .

KEEP the FIRE PITS. They are a long-standing and cherished tradition in these beach towns along theRead More So Cal Coast. It's fine to regulate the months, dates and hours of use (e.g., Fri, Sat and Sun from 7 p.m. to midnight in the summer months), and the materials burned in the pits (only wood, not plastic or other toxic items). It's also fine to establish a system by which users must register or make a reservation and provide a credit card to cover costs of clean-up if they don't pick up afterward (similar to Crystal Cove State Park). As for the recent AQMD report detailing high levels of particulates, did anyone take into consideration all the particulates that are falling from the sky every day with the hundreds of commercial airplanes that take off from John Wayne and Long Beach Airports. These flights from John Wayne Airport take off hard-and-fast and fly directly over-head (right over the Back Bay, Balboa Island and the Peninsula). Try factoring that into your air quality tests. I bet you will find there are more pollutants and particulates in the air coming from those jets flying over-head than anything remotely close to the beach fire pits!!!! Jim M.
Joker Joe May 20, 2013 at 07:26 am
If the AQMD is worried about pollution I have a suggestion!!! This should amaze everyone as I doubtRead More you even recognize what is happening. Go look at your car. If it has been outside you will notice tiny specs of something that is not bird doo. It is usually a pale yellow depending. What you are looking at is oil or hydraulic fluid. Next question is where did it come from. Answer? Airplanes!!! Yes they leak, just like your car. Get the AQMD doing something useful! Leave the fire rings alone.
