Surfer Dies at San Onofre State Beach
Torrance man was found unresponsive in the water on Saturday.
A Torrance man was declared dead about an hour after being pulled from the waters off San Onofre State Beach, a coroner's spokesman said Sunday.
Russ Yamada, 42, was found unresponsive in the ocean near his surfboard about 4:35 p.m. Saturday, according to a coroner's statement. He was taken to Saddleback Memorial Medical Center in San Clemente and declared dead, according to City News Service.
Waves as high as 8 feet were breaking on southwest-facing beaches Saturday.
