Local yoga instructor Sarah Carbone of the Zen Den Yoga Studio is customizing the stress-relieving exercise with specialty sessions geared for people fighting breast cancer.
The sessions currently consist of a group of ladies who meet on Friday mornings and offer each other positive energy with exercise.
"Fear and anger contribute to the disease these ladies have in their bodies," Carbone said. "Being able to surrender those emotions and fight the fears which contribute to the suffering in a positive environment with others greatly helps whats going on in their lives.”
Carbone is currenly a second-year yoga therapy student at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles and is catering to the needs of her students.
Although the therapeutic style class is mostly geared for cancer survivors, you do not have to be battling a disease to attend. Sarah Resendiz was enjoying the class and is using it to accommodate her pregnancy. Resendiz is eight months pregnant and loves how Carbone’s teaching style modifies workouts especially for the individual’s needs.
Stephanie Guarascio was diagnosed three years ago with locally advanced breast cancer and says the class is amazing.
“For a breast cancer patient, it gives a format to realize your fears," she said. "Life is never normal after having cancer and this yoga class helps you surrender your mind body and soul during the difficult journey.”
Zen Den Yoga offers many styles of classes which accommodate all levels of experience. Some classes include flow yoga, detox, pilates fusion, and power yoga. The studio is also part of the "Yoga for Vets" national program. Zen Den offers all Vets four free yoga classes and one complimentary class to all immediate family members of Mililary Service men and woman.
