Architect Sees $9.7 Mil in Construction Needs at Palisades
Districtwide, Capistrano Unified is facing an $822 million tab. Here's Palisade Elementary's share.
It would take $9.7 million to bring Palisades Elementary to current standards, according to an architect the Capistrano Unified School District hired.
WLC Architects produced a report in 2009, listing all of the facility needs across the 55-school district. Since then, the report was updated with 2013 pricing. The district is facing $822 million worth of needs and only has about $44 million on hand to address them.
Of the $11 million, $1.4 million would be spent on replacing half of the portable classrooms with permanent structures at the Capistrano Beach campus. And another some $1.2 million is needed to address routine repairs the district has deferred in the last few years, including paint, flooring and paving.

The 2013 numbers also include $684,000 to buy state-of-the-art technology for students.
Below is an easier-to-read legend for the photo above. New construction, which originally included replacing all the portables, is in peach, remodels in yellow.
